Everything we experience is a outward projection of our inward state of mind. Most people either are not aware of this or misunderstand the meaning of it. However, don’t confuse levels here. This doesn’t mean that we cause every event we witness, only the way we feel about it. Everyone’s eyes see basically the same thing. There is an old saying that “every golf shot makes somebody happy.” It means that the value of everything is determined not by the event but our take on it. One person’s loss is another’s gain; one person’s terrorist is another’s heroic patriot. This can be very revealing for us if we let it. Whether we like someone or something is not contingent on any inherent value but only on our interpretation and conditioned bias. The natural state of our minds is joy and love. If we look upon the world and feel fearful, we are projecting the fear we have in our minds. When we feel fear, it is always the result of some unforgiven and unresolved past experience.
